Privacy Policy

Effective September 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Kalabunga DashCam, LLC (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use New DashCam App (the “App”) on iPhone, Android or the web. The short version: your recordings stay on your phone unless you choose cloud backup, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads or use tracking.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: your email address, used to sign in with a one-time code. You can use the App without an account; cloud backup, settings sync and memberships need one.
  • Accident reports: details you enter, such as your name, phone, license and vehicle details, insurance details, the other party's details (including their license, address and vehicle owner), passengers, witnesses, police and towing details, trip or order IDs, a description of what happened, and your signed statement; photos you add; still images taken from your video; the sensor timeline around the impact (speed, G-force and location); and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the video that shows whether it has been altered.
  • Feedback and support: your name, email and message when you contact us.
  • Settings and acknowledgments: if you're signed in, your App settings (including the date and Terms version when you acknowledged the audio-recording notice, and your Terms acceptance) sync to your account so they follow you to a new phone.

Information the App captures on your device

  • Video and audio. The App records video from the camera(s) you choose. It records audio only if you turn on Record Audio. Before audio is turned on, the App shows a notice about recording-consent laws and keeps the date you acknowledged it (with your settings, and in your account if you're signed in). Recordings can capture other people, such as passengers, pedestrians, other drivers and license plates.
  • Location and speed (if you turn on Speed, Coordinates, Map, Accident Report, Auto-SOS or Parking Mode, or record audio). They are shown on screen and added to accident reports. Your speed is stamped onto your video if you turn on Speed, and your GPS coordinates if you turn on Coordinates; anyone you share such a clip with can see them. When you record audio, your location is also checked on your phone against a built-in map of US states where everyone in a conversation must agree to being recorded, so the App can remind you; this check never leaves your phone.
  • Map (if you turn it on): to draw the map around you, the App requests map images for your area from a map provider: Apple Maps on iPhone, and on Android and the web, services based on OpenStreetMap data. The provider sees the area being shown and your device's IP address, but not who you are; we don't store your location for the map. When you search for a place in Navigate, or choose “Show route on this map”, what you type and your current position are sent to the map or routing provider to find nearby places and work out the route; we don't store them. To fill in the street address on an accident report, the report's location is sent to the same kind of provider. If you tap Navigate and pick an app, the destination you type is passed only to that navigation app (Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps), under that app's own privacy policy.
  • Motion sensor (G-force) (if you turn on Crash detection, Accident Report, Auto-SOS or Parking Mode). Used on the device to detect impacts. Only the readings around an impact are kept, in the accident report's timeline.
  • Recording details: each clip's start time, length, camera view, quality, size, a trip (“drive”) identifier that groups clips of one trip, whether it is crash-protected, and its fingerprint. These are stored with the clip, and with your cloud copy if you upload it.
  • Driver Mode information (if you turn it on): the rideshare or delivery platform you select and your trip status. It is used to label your recordings.
  • Now playing (iPhone, if you allow Apple Music access): the song title and artist, shown on the Record screen. It never leaves your device.
  • Region and time zone: your phone's region setting picks your local emergency number and speed units (on the device only). Your time zone is saved with accident reports so they show local time.

Information we receive from others

  • Apple App Store / Google Play: when you buy a membership, we receive a signed record of the purchase: product, dates, renewal status and a transaction ID. We never receive your card or payment details.

2. Where your recordings are stored

  • On your device, by default. Recordings are saved in the App's on-device Vault and, if you choose “To Device”, in your phone's photo library (Apple Photos or your Android gallery). We cannot see recordings stored only on your device.
  • In our cloud, only if you choose it. Recordings are uploaded only when you have a Pro + Cloud plan and choose “To Cloud” or “Both”, or when you tap Save To → Cloud for a specific recording. Large clips are uploaded in pieces so an interrupted upload can resume. When your cloud storage is full, your oldest unprotected recordings there are deleted automatically to make room. If you turn off “Keep copies on this phone”, a clip's phone copy is removed once the cloud copy is verified (crash-protected clips and clips in accident reports always stay on your phone).
  • Loop recording on your phone. When the phone storage you set aside for recordings is full, the App removes your oldest unprotected clips from the phone automatically. This happens on your device; we don't see it.
  • Web Vault. You can also sign in at kalabunga.com/dashcam with the same email and a one-time code to watch, download, protect or delete your cloud recordings and download your accident report PDFs in a web browser. The website only shows what is already in your cloud; it can't create an account or reach recordings kept only on your phone. Your web sign-in is kept in that browser tab only, and ends when you sign out, close the tab, or after 8 hours.
  • Accident reports, with their photos and video stills, are saved on your device. If you're signed in, they are also synced to our servers so we can generate the PDF for your insurer. To fill in the street address, the report's GPS location is sent to our map provider; we don't store it for any other purpose.

3. How we use information

Legal bases (EU, UK and similar laws). Kalabunga DashCam, LLC (a subsidiary of Kalabunga Labs, Inc.) is the data controller. We process your information on these bases: to perform our contract with you (running the App, your account, cloud storage and membership); on our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure, preventing fraud, improving reliability); with your consent (camera, microphone, location, motion, photo library and music access, which you can withdraw at any time in your phone's settings); and to comply with legal obligations (such as tax records).

  • To provide the App: sign-in, settings sync, cloud storage, accident reports and PDFs, crash detection and Auto-SOS.
  • To manage memberships and check your cloud storage limit.
  • To answer support requests and feedback.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not use your recordings to train AI models, do not sell or rent personal information, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

4. When we share information

  • When you ask us to: for example, when you export a recording by email or share an accident report PDF, it goes to the people and apps you choose.
  • Service providers that run the App for us under contract: server hosting, cloud file storage for your uploaded recordings and report photos, email delivery for sign-in codes, and map, search and routing providers for the Map and address features. They may use data only to provide their service to us. Our servers and storage are located in the United States.
  • Apple and Google process your subscription payments under their own privacy policies.
  • Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the safety of any person.
  • Business transfer: if we are involved in a merger or acquisition, this policy continues to apply to your information.

New DashCam App is not affiliated with Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Grubhub, Instacart, Amazon or any other platform. Driver Mode doesn't connect to your accounts on those platforms, and we don't share information with them.

5. Emergency calls

Auto-SOS shows a button to call your local emergency number (for example 911 in the US and Canada, 112 in the EU, 999 in the UK, or 000 in Australia). The call is placed by your phone's dialer only if you tap it. We don't contact emergency services on your behalf or share your location with them.

6. How long we keep information

  • Cloud recordings and accident reports: until you delete them, or delete your account.
  • Account and membership records: while your account is open. After it closes, we keep only what we must for legal, tax or fraud-prevention reasons.
  • Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes. Sign-in sessions end when you sign out, or after 180 days in the App and 8 hours on the Web Vault.
  • Support messages: up to 2 years. If you delete your account, they are kept but no longer linked to you.
  • Unfinished cloud uploads (pieces of a clip that never completed): about one day.
  • Sign-in code records, including the requesting IP address used to limit how many codes can be requested: about 15 minutes of use, then deleted with the next sign-in.
  • Everything on your phone (the Vault, reports, settings) stays until you delete it or the App, or until loop recording replaces it.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Permissions: camera, microphone, location, motion, photo library and Apple Music access can be turned off at any time in your phone's settings. Some features won't work without them.
  • Delete recordings in the Vault. Deleting a cloud recording removes it from our servers.
  • Delete your account at any time in the App: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your cloud recordings, synced accident reports, settings and membership record. You can also choose to erase what's stored on your phone. It doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel that in your store settings.
  • Get a copy of your data at any time in the App: Settings → Account → Export my data. It contains everything stored for your account in a readable file.
  • Access or correct your data, or ask for deletion by email, at dashcam@kalabunga.com. We'll respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days where the law allows), or sooner where the law requires. We may need to verify your identity, for example by sending a code to the email on your account. You can also ask through an authorized agent, who must show your written permission.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, the EU/UK), you may have additional rights: to know what we hold, to get a copy, to have it deleted or corrected, to object to or restrict processing, to opt out of targeted advertising, profiling or the sale of personal information (we do none of these), and to appeal a decision we make about your request by replying to our response. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority or state attorney general.
  • California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, we have not done so in the past 12 months, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (such as precise location or your recordings) for purposes other than providing the App. The categories of personal information we collect are described in section 1 and are used for the purposes in section 3.
  • Do Not Track and opt-out signals: we don't track you across apps or sites, so there is nothing to opt out of; where a browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it.

8. Recording other people

Laws about recording video and especially audio differ by location. Some places require the consent of everyone being recorded, and some countries restrict or ban dash cams, or limit how their footage can be shared (for example, Austria and Luxembourg). You are responsible for following the laws where you drive, including telling passengers they are being recorded; Driver Mode's passenger notice can help. The App's reminders about audio recording in some US states are general information, not legal advice, and may not be complete. For recordings you make, you decide what is captured and shared.

9. Security

Data sent between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only in hashed form, sign-in codes expire in 10 minutes and are limited in how often they can be requested, and cloud video links expire after a short time. Cloud recordings are stored on servers we control and are accessible only through your signed-in account. No system is perfectly secure. Protect your phone with a passcode, because recordings in the on-device Vault are protected by your phone's own security. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Children

The App is intended for drivers aged 18 and over. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 (or under 13 under U.S. COPPA). If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International users

We are a United States company and process information in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country. Where required (for example for EU/UK users), we rely on legal safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, for these transfers. By using the App you understand that your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.

12. Changes to this policy

We'll post updates here and change the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect.
